Let’s talk about weather

It’s been a very wet and gloomy winter down under, raining more than usual. The weather pattern surely has changed dramatically in the past few years. Auckland weather can be very unpredictable. With the sun shining one minute, and gloomy clouds roaming the next. Climate over here is direct opposite to those in the northern hemisphere, with summer starting from December to February, autumn March to May, winter June to Aug and spring September to November. While the weather here is generally temperate, mainly maritime, summery sun can be quite unbearable. Though the general temperature seldom hits the 30 Celsius mark, the UV levels are very high due to its closer proximity to the sun at that time of the year. It is really not advisable to expose oneself under the hot sun for a prolonged period of time, even if sunscreens are applied.

Coming from the tropics, the thing I enjoy the most about living in the temperate climate is the many colours that comes with it. While summer is too harsh, winter too gloomy and spring too garish, autumn yields the perfect season for me. It is then when everything turns colourful and breezy. The whole town seems to turn into a big dazzling picture, with coolness in the air and leaves swaying on trees in shades/hues of reds and yellows. Even the most unromantic people will feel the poetic moments in the air. A walk in the park is most pleasurably at this time of the year. I always feel a little surreal emerging amongst the breezy air and splendid colours of the season. It never fails to amaze me.

On another note, forecast said another storm is heading our way. This gloomy winter weather is killing all my fun to get out of the house for some decent photo shoots. Somehow the sun only comes out occasionally during the weekdays and rains all day long in the weekends! The sky pretty much looks like the above picture lately, albeit a little less dramatic (what to do, I’m all about drama!), but still, gloom! I’m just going to roll into bed and hibernate.

I still prefer rainy days over the super hot weather over here in Malaysia.. You know hot weather can easily turn human into cranky people..

CC: You know, I used to think that, but you’ll probably changed your mind and starting to miss the sunny days after weeks of gloomy weather. It starts to affect your mood after awhile.

I love spring the most, but I agree, autumn presents the best of both worlds.

There’s a sense of melancholic romance about fall.

Summer’s too hot and winter, well, we know what that’s like.

CC: Spring has it’s beauty too, but I guess it’s the very melancholic quality of autumn that’s attracting me.

It’s extremely hot and killing here in Malaysia now..I got to water my plants again. Rolling in bed and hibernating sounds fun cc!

I used to wish I’m living in other climate..where I can witness and feel the seasonal change. I love the cool air whenever the wind blows; no heat or blinding sunshine..but again, like you say..I may miss all those once I feel the extreme in other parts of the world.

But to experience them in NZ is something I don’t mind right now.

CC: Well, when comes down to it, I guess I still prefer cold over hot.

Oh I have experianced all 4 weathers but when it comes down to it, I always prefer Malaysia’s overly hot weather. I mean I sweat and I’ll look like shit and the end of the day but I will take sweat than freezing my butt off and slipping on the pavement during winters.

    I hate snow.

CC: One thing good about hot weather, it makes you sweat, and loose weight!

Exactly how I feel! The weather really affects my mood and I hate winter here! Likewise, autumn is my favourite season. Beautiful carmine/golden hues, mild temperature and romantic. Great that there is someone feel the same way. Keep warm and be safe.

I think I’m like you – I love autumn season too! Summer is too hot and winter too depressing. At least spring is bearable. But in Malaysia, I like cloudy weather and maybe even rainy ones – cos now it’s too damn hot. No rain for the past one week!!

CC: Same here, enjoy rainy days in Malaysia too!

Yes i heard NZ has very high UV rays. Sis & family always slap on sunblock before going out in Auckland. Weather’s nowadays all funny the world over cos’ of global warming and climate change. Our irresponsible ways are really taking its toll on mother nature.

CC: It really is! It’s been raining more than usual this time of the year, with the temperature dropping earlier than usual too. It’s all out of loop. We had the hottest summer in a decade earlier this year too!
