The path we choose to walk on
It can be a lonely one sometimes
Doubts and dispute, they creep in like a sneaky thief
Take heart, light is always not far away

I wonder between the good and evil
Trying to grasp that centre point
The delicate balance of life
It’s fragile like a bubble sphere

We live in a labyrinth, walking around the intricate maze
Taking in the scenery as I figure my way around
I see the light shining towards me
When will I reach there, I will never know
I just keep striding on
Letting out a resounding roar

When choice is a way of life, do we make them from our heart or the scrutiny of society?

very thoughtful piece. =) keep on keeping on, cc. clearly, make choices from one’s heart. you have to live with the consequences of your decisions, and not anyone else. but of course, these things are easier said than done.

CC: Thank you. I agree, we should live for ourselves, not others. I try to adhere to that thought.

    cc,
    You can really write.

I wonder if I am walking the right path now…

CC: Venture away, we all live through trials and errors. If we stand there and wonder, nothing will ever happens, right?
Here I share one of my favourite poems with you.

The Road Not Taken, by Robert Frost

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
I’m sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
    To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
    Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden back.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
    Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

your piece reminds me of myself at times, but i’m sure you already knew that…

your prose and pictures have not improved anymore – they are already at the zenith of perfection :)

CC: So did I! I think great minds do think alike! ;)

In life, we rarely know what is the ‘right’ choice and ‘right’ decision. We just pick one, and hope that it’s the ‘right’ one. If I’m making sense.

CC: Yes, pick one and love it. Second thoughts can kill sometimes.

When choice is a way of life, do we make them from our heart or the scrutiny of society?-> food for thought most definitely.

I wonder between the good and evil
Trying to grasp that centre point
The delicate balance of life-> i like these three verses

It’s fragile like a bubble sphere-> in my opinion a little out of place

CC: Thanks for your input bengbeng, I appreciate that. :)

Being humans, we’re bound to be pressured by the society to choose something which might not be what we want, and end up regretting. However, choosing the path that follows our heart will always be our right choice. :)

CC: I agree, our hearts always lead us to the right path. Learn to listen to it, that’s a challenge.

  13. eiling Says:

It’s always the scrutiny of society because in life, we were always striving to please everyone. Once in a while only we tend to make choices from our hearts. The choice we made = the path that we will be taking. So we have to make our choices carefully for some paths taken can never be changed.

CC: We all live under the scrutiny of society whether we want it or not, some choose to succumb to it, some choose otherwise. At the end of the day, we have to live with the decision we made and hope there’s no regrets.

Sadly most people succumb to social pressures…especially in asian society!!!…I always tell my daughter to do what she wants or whatever she feels is best – don’t care what others think…but good or bad, she’ll have to live with it!! I will just pull…not push!

CC: She certainly is lucky enough to have a great and supportive dad like I do! So grateful for that! :D

Most of us care too much about what other people think and end up putting our own interest last. That is not to say we should be selfish, we just need a balance.

I think we should listen to our heart, do what we think is right as long as it doesn’t cause harm to others… and just enjoy the process….

Recommended read: “One Minute For Yourself” by Spencer Johnson.

CC: I think at one time or another, we all do, until we find the balance and self.
Thanks for the recommendation, I’ll check that out! :)

All are parts and parcels of life. Adversities has its advantages. It let you grow. We all have to endure those painful “Splats” in our life. In fact many times. But light is always a little bit more after that deafening “Splat”! Hold on, hold fast, don’t give up! =)

CC: I agree, I belief things happen for a reason. Most of the time, we end up getting more out of adversities.

I’ve never really cared what society thinks about the decisions that I will make or have made b/c in general the society is judgmental and stereotypical to a certain level. No matter what a person does, he/she will still be judged at the end of day.

The choices that we make is in our best interest and of course others too. But to make choices b/c of the fear for scrutiny, that’s pretty wrong b/c we are entitled to live the way we want to in this life.

    ;)

CC: Good on ya! It’s our life after all, while people can judge and stereotype the choices we make, ultimately, they can talk the talk but we’re the one who walk the walk.

Life is all about choices. The ideal is to make choices from our hearts. But whichever path we take, never regret because we did the best we could at that point of time when we were making the choice. Just be responsible for the choice we made.

CC: You are right foongpc. Choose what we love, and love what we chose.

This is when we must be most weary of the inner critic who will try to instill fear and doubt in us when making decisions about our future. It is scary, but helpful to acknowledge that all humans are scared.

CC: I agree, it is when we can come to admission and realisation of our weakness and vulnerabilities that can we move on and be the person we want to be.

  41. _butt Says:

I thought about Robert Frost’s poem Road not taken all the time when I thought about doing things the ‘heart’ way… because that would mean to risk yourself losing sense of belonging with others, when people start saying you’re crazy…

CC: i like the way you put it, doing things the ‘heart’ way. Those who pulled through criticism and able to prevail are usually the ones who go on and do great things.

Life may be nothing more than figuring out how to put a puzzle of a thousand pieces together, without knowing what image will appear eventually, without even being sure if there are missing pieces from the beginning. The pleasure is in the search, not in the final result.

CC: I cannot agree more! The journey is as if not more important than the destination. Thanks for sharing.

Without knowing, most of us live our life, sadly, by the scrutiny of society rather then our own heart. WHo are the society here? Families and friends. Thank god, I’m not one of them.

CC: Good on ya! It’s easy to succumb to that, but we can do it if we follow our heart. Most of the time, it’s a matter of choice.
