Snippets of my China trip. click photo to enlarge.
Where’s your dream destination? For most of my friends, it’s Japan, Europe or the Pacific. For me, it is the home of my forefathers, China. It’s been said that one must always treasure his culture and heritage. Those are the key factors for one to define oneself with. This oriental land of wonder has always been my dream destination. My Chinese educational background must have something to do with it. I’ve yearned to witness the many historical heritages I had read as a child. The metropolis city that is Shanghai, the beautiful mystical West Lake, the grand Forbidden City that witnessed the prosperity and decline of the Ming and Qing dynasties.
To me, this long-awaited trip is a journey of discovery, a chance to get to know my roots.
Photos to come soon. (Gazillians of them, please give me some time to edit ok!
)

i don’t have any dream place to go, but china definitely not in my destination list yet, too many fake stuff there and i am afraid!
CC: You know, it’s actually not that bad, just use your judgment and you’ll be fine. Sometimes, things we hear can be quite deceiving.

I’d rather go to NZ…but hey, wait a minute! You’re in NZ! I love England too… China? No thanks! Communication breakdown!
CC: I’d say the scenery there is entirely different and equally if not more spectacular than NZ.
Mr K has language barrier too, but it didn’t stop him from enjoying himself there.

I always wonder how is it like in the Forbidden City. Maybe you can share some of your experience.
CC: I certainly will! It’s such a grand place with such rich past, I had tears in my eyes as I entered the palace.

A bit of a cliche, but it’s Europe for me too. Love the old buildings, the history behind it, the difference in culture, the sceneries, the quirkiness, not too fond of the long haul flight though. :/
CC: The long haul flight is the kicker, especially while I’m located at the end of the world, but it’s totally worth it!

You went to China backpacking style or with tour guide?
The ’summary’ photos is already breathtaking. Can’t imagine what it would look like in bigger shots.
CC: Joined a group this time, as I went with family and it’s the first time. Will definitely return on our own to explore further!

China is one my dream country too..it’s one of the greatest thing in history. I know how you feel..I was like that before reaching Jakarta..but not much left that can remind me of my ancestors..only the hustle and bustle.
CC: It’s totally surreal to set foot on the exact place where my ancestors walked. I’m sure you’ll find it very fascinating.

I love it there to. But found the food a tad oily..and y’know la..the toilets. Ahem!
CC: Yes, I went to Shanghai, Hangzhou, Beijing, HK and Macau. will write about my trip as soon as I can. I was a bit worried about the toilets too, but found them to be acceptable, been to worst in Malaysia! Especially those in the tourist area, the cleaners are always in there to clean up.

Honestly speaking, I wasn’t really attracted to China even though it was the country where my forefathers came from. It was b/c I was always fascinated w/the beauty and colours of Europe. But as I grew up, I learned how to appreciate my background more than before and the scenery in China ( those I’ve seen from my grandmother’s trip a few years back ) prompted me to be fascinated w/the country more. It truly is a beautiful country.

I had been to Beijing, Nanjing, Shandong and Guangdong (for business purpose). With the exception of the Great Wall, I haven’t found the places I visited to be very interesting – maybe exactly because I am a Chinese Malaysian. To me, Chinese (majority Han) culture isn’t ‘exotic’.
If I have chance, I would go to Yunnan or the Silk Road.
